We were very glad to welcome Dee Cowell back to Bovingdon Green Village Hall this month where she ran a workshop on using water-based media and pastel (and a few other materials too!) Dee is a regular visitor to our society and is generous and enthusiastic in sharing new techniques and ideas with us. Our subject matter for this session was Spring flowers. Those present embarked on their flower pictures using moulding paste and doilies to add initial texture and interest. An acrylic ink wash was laid over the canvas and then watercolour or acrylic paint used to define the flowers. Pastel was used to add finishing touches to bring out the highlights and again add another dimension and texture to the artworks. One attendee reported: "Our concentration was complete and at times you could have heard a pin drop - with the exception of Dee's generous comments and encouragement of course as we worked". We run around four workshop days a year for our members and no prior experience is needed - just a willingness to have a go! As the picture demonstrate below - everyone had a brilliant and productive day! For more information about Dee Cowell and to see examples of her work, you can visit her website by clicking here
